About Us - MIDWEST TREE SERVICES

Who We Are

A Team Committed to Excellence

We're MidWest Tree Service, and we've been handling trees around Saint Joseph and Kansas City since 2010. Greg Bailey started this company after working for other tree outfits and getting frustrated with how they cut corners. He wanted to build something different—a crew that shows up when they say they will, does the work right, and actually cleans up the mess. We're not the biggest tree service around, but we're local, we're honest, and we've been doing this long enough to know what we're doing. Most of our work comes from people calling us back or telling their neighbors about us. That's how it should be.

Greg Bailey

Why We Started This Business

Greg spent years climbing trees for other companies before 2010. He saw the same problems over and over—guys rushing through jobs, leaving half the branches in the yard, or quoting one price and charging another. He figured if he was going to break his back doing tree work anyway, he might as well do it right and build something that actually lasted. So he bought his own equipment, got licensed and insured, and started taking calls. The first few years were just him and one other guy. Now we've got a full crew, but the approach hasn't changed. We still treat your property like it's our own and don't leave until the job's done clean.

What Makes Us Different

We're not trying to be the cheapest option in town. We're trying to be the one you call back next time. That means showing up on time, giving you a straight price upfront, and doing the work without tearing up your lawn or leaving a pile of wood chips for you to deal with. We don't subcontract—it's our crew on your property every time. Greg's usually on-site running equipment or overseeing the job. We carry full insurance, we've been doing this fifteen years, and we know the trees that grow around here. Most importantly, we're not disappearing after one job. We live here. Our reputation matters because we're sticking around.

Greg Bailey

Owner & Tree Service Specialist

Greg started MidWest Tree Service in 2010 after years of working for other tree companies around Saint Joseph. He got tired of seeing jobs done halfway, so he built his own crew that shows up on time and cleans up when they're done. He's hands-on with every job and still runs the equipment himself most days.

How We Handle Your Tree Work

1

We Come Look and Give You a Real Number

Call us and we'll set a time to come out—usually within a couple days. Greg or someone from the crew will look at the tree, check what's around it, and figure out how long it'll take. Then we give you a price right there. No waiting for an email or callback with some padded quote. If the job makes sense, we schedule it. If it doesn't, we'll tell you that too.

2

We Show Up and Do the Work Safe

When we get there, we mark off the area and set up equipment. If it's a removal, we section it down piece by piece or drop it whole if there's room. For trimming, we cut what needs cutting and rope down the big stuff so it doesn't wreck your lawn. We're not rushing. Tree work done fast usually means something gets damaged. We take the time to do it right and keep your property in one piece.

3

We Load Everything and Leave It Clean

Once the tree's down or trimmed, we cut it into pieces, load the truck, and haul it all off. We rake up the small stuff and make sure your driveway's clear before we leave. You shouldn't have to pick up after us. Most jobs are cleaned up the same day. If we grind a stump, we'll either haul the chips or spread them for mulch if you want. Your call.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!

How much does it cost to remove a tree in Saint Joseph?

Depends on the size and where it's sitting. Small tree in an open yard might run $300–$600. Bigger trees near power lines or houses cost more, usually $800–$2,000. We give free estimates, so call and we'll give you an actual number based on what you've got.

Do you serve Kansas City or just Saint Joseph?

We work in both. Saint Joseph, Kansas City MO, Kansas City KS, plus Weston, Platte City, Savannah, Parkville, Liberty, Leavenworth, and Atchison. If you're somewhere around there, we can probably get to you. Call and we'll let you know.

How fast can you get here for storm damage?

Usually same day or next morning if a tree came down in a storm. We prioritize emergency calls when something's blocking a driveway or sitting on a house. Give us a call and we'll get there as soon as we can move the schedule around.

Do you clean up after the job or leave a mess?

We haul everything off. Wood, branches, debris—it all goes in the truck. We're not leaving piles in your yard for you to deal with later. You'll have wood chips if we grind a stump, but we can rake those out or leave them for mulch if you want.

Can you grind stumps below ground level?

Yep. We grind stumps down about 6–8 inches below the surface. That's deep enough to plant grass or put a garden bed over it. If you need it deeper for construction, we can do that too. Just let us know what you're planning.

What's the best time of year to trim trees?

Late fall or winter's usually best. Trees are dormant, easier to see the structure, and there's less mess. But we trim year-round if you need it done. Spring and summer work fine, just costs a bit more because there's more cleanup with all the leaves.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yeah, Monday through Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM. Saturdays fill up fast, so call early in the week if you need weekend work. We don't work Sundays unless it's an emergency storm situation.

Are you insured if something goes wrong?

We carry full liability insurance for property damage and worker injuries. If a branch hits your fence or something breaks, you're covered. We've been doing this fifteen years and haven't had a major claim, but the insurance is there just in case.

Can you remove a tree close to my house without damaging anything?

Yeah, we've done plenty of tight removals. We section it down piece by piece if it's too close to drop whole. Takes longer but keeps your house, fence, and landscaping safe. We'll rope down branches and lower them instead of letting them fall.

How do I know if a tree needs to be removed or just trimmed?

If it's dead, leaning bad, or has major rot, it probably needs to come out. If it's healthy but overgrown or rubbing your roof, trimming works. We'll tell you honestly when we come look at it. Some guys push removal because it pays more. We'd rather you spend smart and call us back later.
